What to write in a baby book
You do not need to remember everything or write a perfect paragraph. Choose one question below, add a sentence and a date, and save a photo if you have one. These prompts work in a paper baby book or in Zeitarc.

Your arrival and your name
What small detail do we remember from the day you arrived? Why did we choose your name? Was there another name we nearly chose?
First words and first steps
What exactly did you say, including your own pronunciation? Who heard it first? Where were we when you took those steps, and what happened next?
An ordinary day
What song did we sing again and again? What made you laugh today? Which toy, book or everyday object did you carry everywhere?
The people around you
What did a grandparent say about meeting you? What routine did you have with a sibling or family friend? Which family phrase do we want you to remember?
A note to your future self
What would we tell you about this season of our lives? What surprised us about being your parents? What do we hope you will feel when you read this?

Start with the easiest question, even if it is about yesterday.
Keep one specific detail
Write the words someone said, the place or a tiny detail a photo cannot explain.
Give it a home
Add the date and a photo to a notebook or an appropriate Zeitarc entry. Come back when another memory appears.

How much should I write in a baby book?
A sentence can be enough. A specific detail and a date are often more useful than a long summary you never finish.
What if I started late?
Begin with what you remember today. Use older photos to recall earlier moments, and say when a date is approximate.
Are these prompts only for the first year?
No. Adapt them for toddlers and older children: favourite books, family jokes and everyday routines keep changing.
